Position:  Senior Financial Analyst – Switzer-Carty Transportation

Due to company growth, we are currently seeking a full-time Senior Financial Analyst to be based out of the Greater Toronto Area.  This position will support the Director of Finance in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance Department including financial modeling for business valuation, research and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, month-end close duties, financial statement analysis, as well as process improvement and other special projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Develop financial models in Excel. Build multiple valuation processes in the model including income statement, fair market value of assets, NPV/cash flow to facilitate effective comparison and analysis.

  • Present models and key findings to finance leadership to aid in strategic decisions.
  • Utilize advanced Excel formulas/features and other available data analytical tools and visualization programs to organize and present models.
  • Prepare summaries and forecasts for future business growth and general economic outlook.
  • Create and maintain detailed financial models to support internal budgeting and forecasting.
  • Support the Director of Finance in managing the budgeting and forecasting process with branch managers. Improve efficiency of the process by implementing changes to the existing Workday Adaptive models and reports.
  • Support monthly financial statement completion and analysis.
  • Identify financial trends and recommend actions to management. Develop financial and operational KPIs/metrics in collaboration with leadership and branch managers. Manage the ongoing KPIs/metrics monitoring process.
  • Support the preparation of year-end financial statements, in conjunction with external accounting firm.
  • Recommend technology and process improvements.
  • Play a key role in evaluating new tools available in the market and their subsequent implementation, roll-out and post go-live support to users

 RELATIONSHIPS: 

  • Report directly to the Director of Finance and work closely with the CFO and Finance department.
  • Maintain relationship with President, Vice President of Operations, Director of Maintenance, and Director of Safety to effectively understand direction and expectations of the organization.
  • Build and maintain relationship with branch managers, operation managers, and other branch staff.
  • Maintain relation with consulting partners and technology vendors during evaluation, implementation, and post go-live phases.

EDUCATION:

  • University Accounting, Finance or Business degree
  • MBA preferable
  • Canadian CPA or foreign equivalent accounting designation 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:     

  • 6 to 7 years of finance experience in the areas of financial modelling, business valuation, budgeting & forecasting, accounting, and management/financial reporting
  • Strong mathematical skills, ability to analyse figures, and knowledge of accounting principles are essential attributes for this position.
  • Advanced Excel skills required. Knowledge of any budgeting and forecasting tool e.g. Workday Adaptive Planning (preferable), Vena Solutions, Hyperion, Cognos, etc.
  • Strong day-to-day execution skills with attention to detail. Flexible to adapt as needed to evolving finance priorities in a high growth business environment.
  • Willingness to learn and succeed in the absence of clear or defined process.
  • The role will suit a well-organized, self-starter who demonstrates strong time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to work alone or in team setting with minimal supervision.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are a requirement.
